Music is the window to our souls
(Monday, August 18, 2008/11:51 PM)

Music is the window to our souls. Do u guys agree with that? I definitely agree with that wholeheartedly. =) For a guy who isn't terribly creative in the ways of the arts, music has allowed me to keep in touch with my aesthetic senses.

As for my taste in music, I gotta boast that I'm rather unique. ^^ Most people are geared towards music of a single language and genre. It's commonplace for youths these days to adore Jay Chou and his innovative music, and teenybopper megastar-wannabes on the Taiwanese music scene.

On the other hand, people who are more 'kantang' would love John Mayer's or Jason Mraz's songs if they frequent pubs to indulge in songs easy on the ears. Or rock bands such as Linkin Park if they love jamming heavy rock.

As for me, I have a broad spectrum of songs which I enjoy listening to. English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean. Pop, R&B, Rock. I love them all! =D For peeps who love to sing and hopes to make an impact someday, such as myself, it's important to broaden ur repertoire and appreciate music of different cultures! I shall introduce some songs to stir ur interests! =)

For English...
Jason Mraz - I'm Yours

I preferred other hit songs from this talented singer such as 'You and I Both' and 'Remedy', but 'I'm Yours' started to grow on me. Partly because I tend to favour songs which I can sing comfortably. So now u know... I'm not just satisfied in listening to a good song. I need to be able to sing it well in order for me to enjoy it fully! =)

For Chinese...
Derrick Hoh - Ni Zou Tian Qiao Wo Zou Di Xia Dao (Overhead Bridge, Underground Pass)

Stoic music critics would probably bash me for recommending a teenybopper's run-of-the-mill pop tune, but it's seriously not bad if u give it a try. It's karaoke-friendly, and coincidentally, I'm looking for the next karaoke-friendly tune to belt for future Kbox sessions with my dear buddy, Jaja KC. =D

For Japanese...
Bennie K - MONOCHROME

Unique and powerful Japanese vocals complemented by breathtaking musical arrangement. With cutesy idols running amok the entertainment scene with their irritating squeaky kawaii voice, it's refreshing to hear solid songs from serious music artistes. It's also the theme song for an ongoing uber funny JDorama, Seigi no Mikata. Check it out if u're free! =)

Bonus... Particularly for DBSK fanboys/fangirls (Debbie from our Singtel colleague clique, are u reading this? Hehe! ^_^)
Tohoshinki - Forever Love

I think I'm gonna name this song as the Japanese ballad of the year... Simply beautiful song, accompanied by musical arrangement comprising of elegant instruments such as the violin and piano. Esp. when it comes to the bridge, u'll feel goosebumps (positive ones!) if u're listening to it for the first few times.

Hope the songs are to ur liking! =)
